Every chart in PlusEV is a solver solution. This page says which solver, which game it was solved for, and the one change we make before it reaches the app, so you can judge whether the ranges fit the games you play.

The solver

The ranges are solved with MonkerSolver. We bought the solutions from MonkerGuy, an established seller of pre-solved MonkerSolver preflop ranges, and imported them into the app. We did not build our own solver and we do not hand-adjust ranges to look more “playable”.

The game they were solved for

SettingValue
FormatNo-limit hold’em cash, six-max
PositionsUTG, HJ, CO, BTN, SB, BB
Effective stacks100 big blinds
Rake5%
Antes, straddlesNone

If you play a different game, the charts are still a sound baseline, but they are not exact for it. Deeper stacks, much higher rake, a full-ring table or a tournament with antes all move the correct ranges.

Bet sizes

Sizes are in big blinds and are the total bet, not the amount added.

ActionSize
Open from UTG, HJ, CO2.5bb
Open from BTN3bb
Open from SB3bb, or limp
3-bet in position (HJ, CO, BTN)7.5bb
3-bet from SB11bb, 12bb against the button
3-bet from BB12.5bb, 14bb against the button, 9bb against the small blind
Squeeze10bb from CO and BTN, 13.5bb from SB, 14 to 16bb from BB
4-bet18.5 to 29.5bb, depending on positions and the 3-bet size
5-betAll-in

These are the sizes shown on the position cards in the Ranges tab, such as “UTG Raise 2.5” or “BTN Raise 7.5”.

The one change we make: low-frequency actions

A raw solver output is full of actions taken 1% or 2% of the time. Nobody can memorize those, and nobody can execute them at the table.

So before a range goes into the app, any action a hand takes less than 5% of the time is set to zero, and that share is split evenly between the hand’s remaining actions. A hand that raises 97% and calls 3% becomes a pure raise. A hand that raises 60%, calls 37% and folds 3% becomes a 61.5% raise and 38.5% call.

The effect on the overall range is small. The hijack opening range, for example, is 21.63% of hands in the raw solve and 21.60% after simplification. Mixes of 5% and above are kept as they are, which is why some cells on the grid show two colours. See Splits and mixed strategies for how the app scores those.

How the training is measured against these ranges

Every answer you give is scored by the EV it loses against the solver’s best action in that spot. The case study uses the same measure across more than a million training hands to show how much players improve after practising.
