Opening PlusEV for the first time takes you through three questions and then straight into ten hands. The whole thing runs about three minutes.
The welcome screen
The first screen reads “Train hands that make you money” and offers two paths:
- Get started begins onboarding, described below.
- Have an account? Sign in skips onboarding and restores an existing account, including its streak, stats and EV history.
Question 1: your experience level
Three options, and the one you pick decides how hard your first hands are:
| Option | What it says |
|---|---|
| BEGINNER | ”I’m just starting out”: I know the rules but I lose more than I win |
| INTERMEDIATE | ”I’ve been playing for a while”: comfortable at the table, want a real edge |
| EXPERT | ”I can hold my own at the table”: looking to sharpen GTO and plug leaks |
This is a starting point, not a verdict. The app calibrates from your answers as you train, so picking one step off costs you a few easy or a few hard hands, not your plan.
Question 2: how much you want to train
The screen asks “How hard do you want to train?” and explains that your plan fits your schedule rather than the other way around. Three daily targets:
| Target | Hands per day | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Casual | ~10 | ~2 min, easy to keep up, even on busy weeks |
| Regular | ~30 | ~5 min, steady gains, no burnout |
| Focused | ~50 | ~10 min, serious progress, built for the climb |
Nothing here is locked in. See “Changing your target later” below.
Building your plan
After the questions the app builds your plan, showing a checklist as it works: reading your skill profile, mapping ranges to your level, sequencing your first ten hands, and calibrating the difficulty curve. The screen asks you not to close it while this runs, and moves on by itself when it finishes.
Some new players (beginners only) also see a short glossary step before this, covering the terms the trainer uses.
Your first ten hands
The plan-ready screen offers a 10-hand session, listed as roughly three minutes, and notes that the trainer adapts to your level as you go. Tapping through starts the session. From here on, sessions are the everyday loop of the app.
Saving your progress
After the session you are asked to save your progress: the prompt notes it takes under ten seconds, is free, and needs no credit card. You can sign up with email, Google or Apple.
Skip for now dismisses it, and the screen tells you the same thing this page will: you can create an account anytime from Settings. Until you do, your streak, stats and EV history exist only on that device.
Changing your target later
Go to Settings → Study settings → Training Intensity. The three choices are labelled slightly differently there than in onboarding:
| Study settings | Hands per day | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Casual | 10 | ≈ 2 minutes |
| Regular | 30 | ≈ 5 minutes |
| Grinder | 50 | ≈ 10 minutes |
“Grinder” in Settings is the same target as “Focused” in onboarding.
